Postgraduate Teaching Fellowships (up to six positions)School of ChemistryReference No. 143604The School of Chemistry at the University of Sydney is one of the main centres for chemical research and education in Australia and has access to a comprehensive range of modern research and teaching facilities. The School attracts an outstanding cohort of undergraduate students including large numbers of talented students from all states of Australia. It has a large cohort of postgraduate research students and offers a vibrant and world class research environment.The School is offering up to six part-time (0.2 FTE) appointments at the Associate Lectureship level, and Honours graduates in all areas of chemistry are encouraged to apply. These appointments are made in parallel with enrolment in a PhD or MSc degree in the School of Chemistry, and the salary is in addition to any scholarship stipend.The aim of the Fellowship Program is to provide training and experience in tertiary teaching for outstanding PhD candidates with the objective of training the next generation of Australian University academics.The successful applicants will be expected to conduct up to four first year tutorials per week throughout each semester and contribute to exam marking. Training will be provided by School of Chemistry staff, including winners of local and national teaching awards, and support will be provided throughout the year by academic staff involved in the teaching program. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding research potential and preference may be given to applicants who can also provide evidence of a record of quality performance in demonstrating or tutoring to undergraduate students. The successful applicants will be expected to tutor in all areas of first year chemistry.Applicants must possess a first class Honours degree in Chemistry (or equivalent), and have excellent oral and written communication skills. Successful applicants will be required to be enrolled for a PhD or MSc in the School of Chemistry at the University of Sydney for the duration of their tenure.The successful applicants are expected to commence duties at the beginning of Semester 1, 2009. The positions are part-time (0.2 FTE) and are subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period. They provide for an initial appointment period of two years to run currently with full-time enrolment in a PhD or MSc degree in the School of Chemistry at University of Sydney, with a further offer of employment of one year for those enrolled for in PhD program to a maximum of three years. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees. Remuneration package: $61k - $75k p.a. pro rata (which includes base salary $52k - $63k p.a. pro rata, leave loading and 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).
